The Project Team

The Project Team is based at the University of York and includes people from the Department of Health Sciences and the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination. Together they have the range of skills necessary to carry out the different elements of this project.

Alison Booth 
As a Research Fellow in Dissemination at the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination (CRD) at the University of York, I have a wide range of research skills and experience. I will be involved in several aspects of this project, but primarily I am leading on engagement and dissemination activities, and in particular coordinating this blog.


Sue Collins
I am a Research Secretary in the York Trials Unit with ten years’ experience of supporting a variety of trials. As the OKIS Project Administrator I am responsible for organising meetings and payments, providing papers, minuting actions and generally ensuring the project runs smoothly.



Lisa Dyson
I am a Senior Trial Co-ordinator in the Department of Health Sciences with particular interests in public health nutrition, maternal and child health and mental health. As an experienced mixed methods researcher combining both quantitative and qualitative research methods, I am responsible for oversight and quality assurance of the qualitative component of the OKIS project. I will also help facilitate the patient focus groups and interviews and contribute to the analysis. 


Debra Fayter
I am a Research Fellow at the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination at the University of York. I have many years' experience of evidence synthesis on a variety of health topics. My main role in this project is leading the systematic review of existing evidence.




Dorothy McCaughan
I am a Research Fellow at the University of York and also a registered nurse. I have many years’ experience of qualitative research projects that have focussed on patients’ and clinicians’ perspectives of care. My main role in this project is the conduct of the in-depth interviews and group discussions with people with neuromuscular disease who have been fitted with an orthotic device for knee instability.


Catriona McDaid
I am a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Health Sciences and chief investigator for the project. As well as contributing to the research design and interpretation of the results I am responsible for leading the project and ensuring that the research is of a high quality and undertaken within the resources and time that we have funding for. It is also my job to make sure that the project team consults the Project Steering Group and takes their views on board.


Joanne O’Connor
I am a Research Fellow in health economics at the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination with several years of experience in the critical appraisal of economic evaluations and costing analyses. I have also conducted systematic reviews of economic evaluations. My responsibilities in this project are for the costing of the orthotic devices and I will be using my experience in survey methods to contribute to the orthotists survey. I will also be contributing to the systematic review of existing evidence.


Rocio Rodriguez-Lopez
As an experienced Information Specialist at CRD, my primary role is to develop the search strategy for the systematic review in collaboration with the team. I will also use my experience of working in different research settings and my qualifications in Librarianship, Information Science, Scientific Documentation and Communication to provide support for any other information related needs.
